TRAPDOOR SINGLE SHOT CAVALRY CARBINE. Cal. 45-70. S# 187671. Bbl. 22". Barrel carries the "VP" and "eagle head" proof. Buffington rear sight graduated to 1900 yards marked "C" on leaf. Blade front sight. Case hardened low arch breechblock dated 1873. Lock marked "U.S./SPRINGFIELD/1873". 3 click tumbler. Two piece triggerguard. Walnut stock fitted with correct saddle ring. Stock markings removed due to arsenal rework finish. Late type trap buttplate. Model 1890 sight protector barrel band. CONDITION: stock has worn arsenal rework finish with slight loss of wood in inletted areas. Buttstock has several cracks on both sides extending approximately 2 1/2" ahead of buttplate. Metal has turned overall gray and patina with wear and scattered tiny handling marks. Breechblock retains faint case colors. Bore has oxidation and pitting throughout. (01-28043/RW).
